The Brazilian player plans to spud its Alegria well, or 1-IMET-6-MG, in the SF-T-104 block on 19 December.

It aims to drill to 2500 metres vertically to start out, with the ultimate goal of testing a "very large" potential gas formation of between 300 and 500 square kilometres.

"Chances are we will discover gas at low permeability reservoirs and future fracs will be necessary to have economic gas production," Renato Darros de Mattos, director of E&P, told Upstream.
