Total senior vice president Patrice de Vivies pointed out the find had only been made in October 2010 as part of the company’s strategy of exploring near by existing fields.
It is thought to be the first fast-track development in Norway by a foreign player.
The PL102C license, block 25/5 field is operated by Total on a 40% stake with partners Petoro (30%), Centrica (20%) and Det Norske (10%).
