The move by Victoria comes as the federal governmentprepares to put a new regulatory framework in place governing the country’sunconventional oil & gas industry.
Energy & Resources Minister Michael O’Brien said themoratorium will remain in place while it waits for a national approach tofracking.
Five shire councils in the southern state of Victoria havebeen calling for the moratorium and a study into the effects of fracking onwater supplies and the environment.
