The Wingat-1 wildcat was unsuccessful in the main Albian-era carbonate target, but was drilled deeper, to 5000 metres, to test a secondary turbidite target, identifying what HRT described as two "well-developed" source rocks, rich in organic carbonic material and oil-soaked sandstones, "located in the oil window".

"The results on the Wingat-1 well provide important information that will help orientate the next stages of the exploration effort in the Walvis basin," HRT director-president, Milton Franke said.
