The nation’s first LNG import facility started operations in April 2015 at Ain Sokhna on the Red Sea coast. The Hoegh Gallant FSRU belonging to Norwegian specialist Hoegh LNG provides regasification capacity of 500 million cubic feet per day. Barely six months later, a second import facility was up and running at Ain Sokhna after fellow Norwegian company BW LNG won a tender from Egyptian state gas company Egas to provide additional capacity.

Ebypt has climbed into the top 10 liquefied natural gas importers in a short period of time thanks to the flexibility provided by fast-track floating storage and regasification units, of which it now has two in operation, writes Mark Hillier.
