BRAZILIAN oil giant Petrobras is looking to resume operations in the deep-water section of the Barreirinhas basin, nearly five years after the company drilled its last exploration well in the new frontier play.
Upstream has learned that Petrobras has drafted plans to spud a new well in Block BM-BAR-1 in the northern equatorial margin in April 2017.
The goal is to appraise the Alcantara natural gas discovery, made in early 2012, in 1253 metres of water with the Diamond Offshore semi-submersible rig Ocean Courage.
