Despite the pervading impression that the country’s oil industry would be more swayed by the policies of Republican presidential hopeful Donald Trump, it is actually Democratic rival Hillary Clinton who is leading in terms of campaign petrodollars.
A Reuters poll of people who have contributed more than $200 to either campaign found that, since 1 July, Trump has pulled in $99,302 from energy industry employees, compared with $114,141 for Clinton.
