The London-based giant’s offshoots BP Ventures and Air BP have teamed up with California-based pioneering outfit Fulcrum BioEnergy, which develops and produces the low-cost jet fuel from municipal solid waste (MSW).

Fulcrum’s first plant is currently under construction in Storey County, Nevada, with a large amount of feedstock from landfills already backed up.

“The organic material found in our household garbage is rich in hydrogen and carbon, the building blocks for jet fuel and diesel,” Fulcrum said of its source material.
