Somalia will hold a restricted licensing round in 2017 concentrating solely on acreage off Galmudug and Southwest states, based on blocks no bigger than 5000 square kilometres.

According to Abdullahi Haider, an advisor to the Federal Ministry of Petroleum & Mineral Resources (MPMR), block demarcation and designation has been completed and available acreage will be announced within a week.

The acreage will stretch from the central coastal town of Hobyi to Barawe, but will exclude waters off the autonomous states of Jubbaland and Puntland, Abdulkadir Abukar Hussein, the MPMR’s technical director general told Upstream.
