Front-month natural gas futures for delivery at Henry Hub were trading at $2.79 to start the week, up more than 25% above the $2.21 gas price at the same time last year.
Natural gas in storage has increase to 4.019 trillion cubic feet — already exceeding the previous record set last year.
This could move higher if weather stays warm, according to the US Energy Information Administration (EIA).
