After two years of continued lows and declines, the Canadian Association of Oilwell Drilling Contractors (CAODC) is predicting the number of wells drilled in 2017 will increase to 4665 from the 3562 expected in 2016 — the first real increase since prices began plummeting in 2014.

It sounds like good news, but does not represent the boost CAODC president Mark Scholz thinks the sector needs to rebound from the thousands of oilfield service jobs lost over the past two years, or encourage skilled labourers to return to the industry.
