Kazakhstan’s giant Kashagan oilfield has started commercial production at a rate of 75,000 barrels per day following delays and cost overruns, the international consortium operating it said.

The field started test-pumping on 28 September. Production will be increased to 370,000 bpd, Energy Minister Kanat Bozumbayev told parliament.

The ramp-up process will be gradual, although there have been suggestions of that target being achieved in about one year.
