After years of debate, opposition and regulatory delays, Kinder Morgan Canada’s proposed C$6.8 billion (US$5 billion) Trans Mountain expansion was finally approved by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

For months, speculation has pegged the project a done deal — something Trudeau would give producers in exchange for killing Enbridge’s Northern Gateway pipeline and introducing a moratorium on tanker traffic in northern British Columbia.
