Oil prices surged above $50 per barrel in midweek trading as Opec oil ministers meeting in Vienna agreed an oil production cut of 1.2 million bpd as of January 2017.

The biggest single cut, the first since 2008 in support of prices, would come from Saudi Arabia. Non-Opec producers will join in with another 600,000 bpd in cuts, Opec said.
