German operator VNG is planning to take a decision as early as February on proceeding to pre-sanction planning for its Pil & Bue subsea oil development in the Norwegian Sea.

Around the same time VNG is expected to pick between two pairs of contractors battling it out for the project’s main front-end engineering and design contracts.

Domestic stalward Aker Solutions is facing off against FMC of the US for the subsea production system, while Technip of France and Oslo-listed Subsea 7 are chasing the subsea umbilicals, risers and flowlines workscope.
