The direction in which the incoming president Donald Trump will move as of his 20 January inauguration is in reality far less clear than it may seem.
All the outward indications are of a hard line by Trump, who had focused on Iran in the last months of his presidential campaign and has since named anti-Iran hawks to key security posts.
