Field operator Central Petroleum revealed Santos had sold its stake to a subsidiary of global investment firm Macquarie Group.
A Santos spokesperson confirmed the sale to Upstream but would not elaborate on the terms of the deal.
“The sale of Mereenie is further evidence of Santos executing our recently-announced strategy to simplify the portfolio and run for value or exit non-core assets,” the spokesperson added.
