Malaysian state-owned Petronas is considering exporting liquefied natural gas from a new location on Ridley Island, British Columbia, in Canada, to appease environmentalists and save up to C$1 billion in construction costs, writes Tonya Zelinsky.

A recent Bloomberg report, citing unnamed sources, said the company is looking at loading LNG onto tankers from a pre-existing site on Ridley Island rather than building a suspension bridge over the Flora Bank — a juvenile salmon habitat — located near its proposed Pacific NorthWest LNG facility on Lelu Island.
