Tullow Oil has struck a $900 million deal to sell key interests in Uganda’s Lake Albert oil project to existing partner Total, an agreement that removes a big obstacle to the French super­major’s ambition of taking a final investment decision on the billion-barrel development late this year.

This deal triggered the award of a contract to Gulf State Engineering to carry out front-end engineering and design work on a 1445-kilometre pipeline that will transport Uganda’s crude to the Tanzanian port of Tanga.
