US energy production could grow as much as 50% by 2040, and under most scenarios outlined in a new report from the federal Energy Information Administration (EIA) the country may be a net exporter just after the middle of the next decade.
Medium-term growth in production will be fuelled by natural gas, which accounts for 40% of US production by 2040 in one scenario, according to the EIA.
