Nigeria Petroleum Resources Minister Ibe Kachikwu has expressed hope that the country may have recovered its mantle as sub-Saharan Africa’s top oil producer, a ranking it lost in 2016 to Angola as acts of sabotage crippled production across the Niger Delta prompting losses of 700,000 barrels per day.

Last month’s 2016 Monthly Oil Market Report from producers’ group Opec showed that Nigerian output had risen above that of Angola.
