When the New Democrat Party (NDP) took office in May 2015, the province not only experienced a major shift in its political leaning but significant changes to its tax system, beginning with increased corporate taxes, income tax and carbon tax.

Making matters worse, all of this came at a time when the province’s biggest industry — the oil and gas sector — was feeling the effects of a major economic downturn and more than 100,000 people found themselves out of work.
