The Calgary-based company — owned by China National Offshore Oil Corporation — submitted its application to British Columbia’s Environmental Assessment Office (EAO) on 9 January, a step that launched the formal review process.
Nexen and its joint venture partner Inpex Gas British Columbia, part of Japanese oil company Inpex, want to build the Aurora LNG project which would include a liquefaction facility and marine terminal at Digby Island near Prince Rupert, British Columbia.
