Oil prices fell mid-week on expectations by some of higher US shale oil production offsetting crude output cutbacks by Opec members complying with a recent decision to restrain production.

Crude prices were nevertheless at about the same level as at the same time the previous week.

Benchmark Brent crude was fetching $55.14, down $0.33, per barrel in late afternoon trading on Wednesday.
