Earlier, the country declared an ambitious goal of growing gas output in the country by 35% by 2020, as Ukraine struggles to reduce its dependence on imports of gas to meet domestic demand during the winter period.
However, according to industry observers, the plan hit a major obstacle after the parliament in Kiev rejected a long-awaited proposal to reduce gas production tax to 12% for new development wells from the standard rate of 29%.
