Rosneftegaz acquired an 89% in Modern Shipbuilding Technologies, which had a 75% stake in Zvezda shipyard.

The government wants Zvezda to become Russia’s main fabrication yard for the delivery of ice-class offshore platforms, tankers, LNG tankers and LNG modules for new developments in Russia’s Arctic operated by Rosneft and Gazprom.

Rosneft has been a main advocate for using Zvezda to reduce Russian dependence on foreign suppliers, announcing last year that it had placed an order for two multi-functional Arctic support vessels with the yard, with the company’s shipping subsidiary Rosnefteflot ordering five Aframax class tankers.
