The aim of the Zed project was to eliminate BOP control system downtime by designing fault-resistant and fault-tolerant control systems that could be retrofitted on existing BOPs.
The partnership was announced in 2014 and aimed to develop a safer system that could be relied on when an emergency requires the BOP to shut off flow from a well, and to boost drilling efficiency.
