A raid on a property in the northwestern town of Kaduna early this year yielded $9.77 million and £74,000 ($92,500) in cash, which the EFCC said belonged to former group managing director of state oil giant Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Andrew Yakubu.

The commission called the amount of cash, concealed in a fireproof safe at a property occupied by Yakubu’s younger brother Bitrus, “staggering”.
