The meeting of officials from DR Congo, Tanzania, Zambia and Burundi has been triggered by oil and gas discoveries in Lake Kivu and Lake Albert, to the north of Lake Tanganyika, and the desire to avoid potential conflict, said Sospeter Muhongo, Tanzania’s Minister of Energy & Minerals.
“We are convinced there might be oil and gas deposits in Lake Tanganyika and along the Malagarasi River, so we must at least discuss the possibility of joint execution of exploration activities.”
