French oil giant Total has selected three contracting groups to take part in a front-end engineering and design contest centred on its multi-billion-dollar Lake Albert oil project in Uganda.

The six-month design competition sees Paris-based TechnipFMC pitted against Texas-based CB&I and Texan compatriot Fluor.

Upstream reported earlier this month that TechnipFMC and CB&I would take part in the FEED contest.

By the end of August this year, the three contractors will come up with competing solutions on how best to develop the oilfields in blocks 1 and 2, where Total’s partners are UK-based Tullow Oil and China’s CNOOC Ltd.
