Kelantan state steps up its royalty wrangle with Petronas

A group of activists, led by non-governmental organisation Royalti Kelantan, demonstrated outside Petronas’ iconic Twin Towers last week.

“We came to know that royalties have been paid to Sarawak, Terengganu and Sabah. However, to date, Kelantan has been denied oil royalty,” said Royalti Kelantan president Nazri Deraman.

The NGO presented a memorandum to Petronas, which acts on behalf of the Malaysian government, claiming the company was in breach of the 1974 Petroleum Act.
