Lenin Boltaire Moreno was within a hair’s breadth of winning the presidency in the first round early this week but by press time was reported to be just shy of achieving that target after garnering 39.23% of the votes counted.
He only needed 40% to win outright but the fractured opposition was hoping to force a second round of voting on 2 April.
