UK supermajor BP is understood to have lined up the Ensco 106 jack-up rig to drill new wells on the Berau production sharing contract off West Papua, Indo­nesia, which provides feedstock for the Tangguh liquefied natural gas project.

The rig owned by Ensco will be mobilised for the campaign towards the fourth quarter this year, according to sources.

Last year, BP, via its Indonesia outfit BP Berau, prequalified China Oilfield Service Ltd (COSL), Japan Drilling, Transocean, Ensco, KS Drilling, Rowan, Apexindo and Seadrill.
