Malaysia's state-owned Petronas has issued pre-qualification letters to Asian yards to guage interest in participating in an upcoming tender for the provision of a mobile offshore production unit to develop the shallow-water K5 sour gas field off Sarawak, Malaysia, writes Xu Yihe.
Major yards in south east Asia, including China’s Offshore Oil Engineering Company (COOEC), Malaysia’s Malaysia Marine & Heavy Engineering (MMHE) and SapuraKencana and Thailand’s Cuel and Thai Nippon Steel are on the Petronas pre-qualification list, together with some yards in Indonesia, Vietnam and possibly South Korea.
