Having put Iran “on notice” for its alleged terrorism and military ambitions and threatened to designate the Revolutionary Guards as a “foreign terrorist organisation” in mid-February, Trump is said to be reviewing his Iran policy.

In his 28 February address to Congress, Trump’s references to sanctionable entities in Iran were ambiguous.

The delay in US action may of course be due to the many obvious distractions Trump has encountered in his first five weeks in office, but there is an emerging consensus that trying to isolate and punish Iran may not be as simple as it may have once seemed.
