The company originally announced its intention to explore the productivity of the Bazhenov reservoir at the field last year, with the initial plan envisaging seven wells.
Russneft will become the fourth oil producer in West Siberia to seek to commercialise oil in the Bazhenov layers, which remain largely untouched because of low permeability of the formation.
