OIL prices were down by well over $1 per barrel on both sides of the Atlantic in mid-week trading, with soaring US crude inventory data on Wednesday accounting for most of the drop.

The price losses come despite continued high compliance by Opec producers who pledged to supply cuts as of 1 January, encouraging speculation that further cuts may be necessary by the middle of the year.
