Norway is gearing up for a new frontier licensing round with a proposal to offer a record number of blocks in the northernmost part of the open areas of the Barents Sea, including acreage close to the Bear Island nature reserve.
Based on nominations from oil companies and advice from the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate, the government has earmarked 93 blocks in the Barents Sea and nine blocks in the Norwegian Sea.
