The 6507/3-12 wildcat, drilled to a depth of 3428 metres by the semi-submersible Deepsea Bergen in operated production licence 159B, struck a seven-metre gas column in a Late Cretaceous sandstone layer.
However, the 6507/3-12A appraisal had to be terminated at 2529 metres depth due to technical issues arising from gas-filled sandstone.
The semisub will now move on to drill a production well on the Aasgard field.
