Mexico’s first round for unconventional resources, planned for later this year, is set to offer an area described by one analyst as one of the world’s 24 “super-basins” — areas with enormous resource potential due to multilayered geology not unlike the Permian play in Texas.
Central Mexico’s Tampico-Misantla basin, which was described as a super-basin this month by IHS Markit, will be a key focus of the unconventionals round scheduled for the end of 2017.
