BP sticks to watching brief on Lancaster

BP, one major company linked with Hurricane Energy, is reserving judgement on the West of Shetland explorer until results come in from the Lancaster early production system, due to start up in 2019, writes Rob Watts.

“We have looked at Hurricane,” says BP North Sea regional president Mark Thomas, though he declines to say whether his company had participated in Hurricane’s data room. “I am not confident in the results of Hurricane yet. We are not going to base anything on some very simple tests that have been carried out thus far,” he says.

“They all look good but time is the determining factor. Show me an extended well test, then I might get interested in things, but right now I will just wait and see.”
