Expro eyes AX-S subsea award

Oilfield services company Expro is expecting to win a maiden contract this month for its pioneering AX-S riserless subsea well intervention system, which it has spent $200 million to develop over the past eight years.

AX-S managing director David Shand said the breakthrough contract, which has been under negotiation for the past three months, could be signed ”by the end of next week with a major subsea operator”.

This would be a major milestone for the AX-S project, targeting 70% savings on deepwater subsea well intervention programmes, which to date has generated widespread interest but no firm contracts.

”Like with all new technology, the clients are lining up to be the second customer,” Shand told a press conference at Offshore Europe in Aberdeen.
