Double dip: Falcon Energy said to have sunk talons into rig newbuild pair in China

A Singapore-listed offshore marine player has placed an order for what would be its first pair of jack-up drilling units.

Falcon Energy Group is understood to have awarded a newbuild contract to China Merchants Yiu Lian Dockyards for a pair of jack-up rigs.

Upstream earlier reported the two rigs will be built to GustoMSC CJ46 design.

Construction of the two jack-up rigs is expected to take about two years to complete.

The company declined to comment on the newbuild plan but said the fundamentals for offshore drilling are expected to remain strong in an environment of high oil prices despite the current weakness in the global economy.
