Power pledge: Eni CEO Paolo Scaroni says company will set up more gas-powered power stations in Africa

Eni is to open a plethora of new gas-fired power stations in Africa as it looks to cement its position as the largest international oil company on the continent.

Chief executive Paolo Scaroni said the Italian major also plans to invest around $50 billion in Mozambique where the company recently made its largest ever gas find.

Scaroni, speaking on the issue of good governance, social responsibility and sustainability at the World Petroleum Congress in Doha on Thursday, claimed that Eni’s commitment to using flared gas to provide local communities with power was even a factor in being awarded the lucrative block 4 off Mozambique.
