Funiwa attack: vessel said to have been boarded near burning rig off Nigeria last month

A US-owned offshore vessel working near the site of a deadly Chevron-chartered rig blaze off Nigeria was reportedly boarded by armed bandits last month.

Crew valuables were stolen from the research vessel Janice 1 when it was attacked and boarded on the Funiwa field on 22 January close to where the jack-up rig KS Endeavor burst into flames and eventually sank following a 16 January blowout.



One report indicates that the Nigeria-flagged vessel, owned and managed by All Ocean Services of Seattle, was at the time monitoring the fire which continues to burn on the surface of the water.
