Bribery case review reveals few surprises but industry can still take some positives

There are stranger bedfellows than oil and corruption — wherever rich resources are up for grabs accusations of misdemeanors are seldom far behind.

It is perhaps no surprise, then, that a recent report into cases brought before the UK authorities in the wake of last July’s Bribery Act has given the oil and gas industry top billing.

The review of cases in the first half of this year by auditor giant Ernst & Young details how in some cases individuals were caught illegally selling on information about bidding for industry projects while other oil deals involved kickbacks running into the millions of dollars.
