Andrew Norman, 55, took over as chief executive of UK-based subsea umbilical and cable specialist JDR Cable Systems in 2011. Norman was born in Bexley in south-east London and studied at St John’s College, Oxford and Imperial college, London, yet his outlook on business has been shaped most by years spent in the US with Dresser Industries. Now back in the UK and living close to JDR’s head office in Littleport, Cambridgeshire, Norman talks to Upstream about meeting customers’ needs and aggressive growth targets, and responds to speculation the private equity-owned company is up for sale.
