TNT shot JR…again

A television series about hydraulic fracturing and methane hydrates would, on the face of it, appear about as popular as a Greek teetotaler at Oktoberfest.

But throw in themes like money, power, greed, and a grizzled old oil baron by the name of JR and suddenly the new show on US network TNT explodes into life.

Dallas hit America’s screens again last week after a 21-year hiatus and, judging by viewer ratings, the battle for control of a fictitious Texan oil dynasty can still pack a punch.

Fans of the original series, which first aired in 1978 and closed shop in 1991, were treated to familiar faces in Larry Hagman as arch oiligarch JR Ewing, Linda Gray playing…
