London-listed 3Legs Resources is widely credited with producing the first gas from a hydraulically fractured horizontal shale well in Europe. The company is currently focused on exploration in Poland, where it holds six concessions covering more than 1 million acres in the Baltic basin. 3Legs also has licences in southern Poland and in Germany.

The company has a partnership in the Baltic basin with US major ConocoPhillips, which funded the seismic and drilling of three wells in the Damnica, Lebork and Karwia concessions. Under the terms of the deal, ConocoPhillips has a right to acquire a 70% stake in the licences and to take over as operator.
