Providence Resources might be crowing about its new foreshore licence in the Kish basin, but many prominent residents of a plush Dublin suburb may not be singing the Irish junior’s praises.

The government’s decision to let Providence drill on the Dalkey Island prospect around 10 kilometres from the Irish capital’s coast could strike a sour note with the rich and famous living onshore near Dalkey who may soon be able to see a rig from their millionaire mansions.

The seaside suburb of south Dublin is home to such well-known musicians as U2 front man Bono and guitarist The Edge, Enya, Van Morrison and Chris de Burgh.
